Decision

Would everyone please state their decision on whether Eagle Racing should race or not. Please also state your most important reasons supporting your decision.

Cheers

  1. My decision is NOT to race basically because from my engineering point of view I think that its almost sure that there will be an engine failure during the race and for the following reasons:

-Chief Engineer Anders has proven his worth, so we can trust him.

-Engine Engineer is too young and has little experience.

-The temperature theory has strong basis (many gasket failures in low temperatures like Sunday's)

-There was an engine failure during the testing rounds the day before. Most probably that will happen during the race when the engine will be under more pressure.

-Sir Ralf prefers to wait and sign after the race. That means that his decision will depend of the outcome. Engine blow means no contract.

    -Driver's safety.

-If there is this option, we could postponed the meeting for the next race under less risky conditions.

  2. As opposed to Chris, my decision would be to race. I make this decision based on the following reasons:
    - It is a dangerous sport anyways, so certain risks need to be taken. A possible engine failure is one of them.

    - The reseach has proven that the engine failure does not necessarily happen exclusively because of the low temperatures.

    - In case Eagle Racing would not race, the chance that Goodbridge will sign the deal is about zero percent. With the decision to race, there is still a large chance that Eagle Racing will complete the race and maybe even be successful as in previous races.

  3. Hi all!

I would have to agree with Adriane. I also think we should race:
    - Its not certain that the engine will fail.
    - There is no clear relation between engine failure and temperature.
    - If we dont race, the chance that the contract wont be signed is bigger in my opinion.
    - Racing is a dangerous sport, in which these kind of risks are normal. Being a racing team means that you should be willing to undertake those risks. Therefore, if we dont race, we are not showing the necessary competitive nature that should be present in a racing team.
    - Its not sure that engine failure will result in no contract with Goodbridge, its part of the game and Sir Ralph should know that.

So I say, lets take our chances and Let's Race!

    Cheers,
    Maaike

  4. My decision is to race:
    - if the team finishes the race, probably it will make a great race and Sir Ralph will be enthusiastic.
    - if the team does not race, it will be tougher to get the sporsorship
    - I don't think that the decision of sponsoring the team relies only on one race. Sir Ralph already saw other races, I think, and he already knows about the previous engine failures. He still decided to sponsor the team, so one more failure will not change his mind.
    - from a sponsor's point of view, I guess it is better that the sponsored car races and then retires, than it does not race at all.

  6. I have read your arguments and I will like to add some counter arguments.

    1. I think it is more likely that the engine will blow (almost certain). Obviously you are more like 50-50 and you haven't found any proof. Actually we have proof about it. Firstly there was a failure in the testing laps! Failure in the testing laps means (if nothing changes between) failure during the race when the engine is under a lot more pressure. Secondly the most failures happened at that temperature. That means something about how the engine works under these conditions.

    2. Why would Sir Raph wants to sign after the race and not before? That means that his decision will be affected by the result. A blow engine is not a good result for sure. But what if we could rearrange the meeting under less risky conditions?

    3. What about drivers' safety? Besides that imagine the reputational loss of a possible injury or death of our driver or others especially if it comes out that we knew about the problem.
